Nominated by Andrea Branzi, designer Federica Biasi is sharing her experience of Maison&Objet 2018 Rising Talent Awards and describing her process to be more precise and focused.

How would you explain your experience concerning the mentorship program of Rising Talent Awards as part of Maison & Objet 2018?
I am super happy to be here, it is a very special, once in a life time experience. I am really proud to be chosen by Andrea Branzi. Maison&Objet gave me the opportunity to get in contact with more people and companies.

What are you exhibiting?
I didn't have a theme for my exhibition. I decided to choose some of my projects and show my state of mind. I am exhibiting a new carpet I designed for CC-Tapis and tableware series I designed for Mingardo. We are going to exhibit them in Milan Design Week this year. I also show a soft chair I designed special for this fair in order to reflect my conceptual understanding.

Which topics are becoming more relevant in the contemporary design discussion from your perspective?
I think, hand craft has taken the most important and relevant point. I also think that lots of designers focused on luxury design, using precious materials such as brass and metal. It may be because of the consequences of the crisis we had in Italy. After the crisis people started to use very luxurious materials.

Which media, figures, movements and developments are you following?
I follow design magazines on a regular basis. I really don't have a favourite figure but I highly appreciate Patricia Urqiola as she created her own signature in design in a short time. I also believe that the art director of Vitra, Hella Jongerious, created a change in the design scene. I started my career as a designer and creative consultant and I hope I can have a chance to work with her one day.

How do you want to evolve your design practice?
Here in Maison&Objet I understood one thing: If you want to show something; that product has to be perfect. I also learned that I have to be more precise and focused on details.
